The statement (here in Greek) reads:
On 19 January, comrade Wil (Willy Ernst Karl) van der Klift, former member of the NCPN Political Bureau and Central Committee, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Manifest and international secretary, passed away. With his insights, humour and tireless efforts, Wil fought for a better world. He made an indispensable contribution to building the communist movement in the Netherlands.
“The confrontation within the U.S ruling class and circles, which led to the new Trump presidency, has to do mainly with the terms, conditions and alliances through which the US will maintain its primacy in the global imperialist system against its competitors, especially China.
Ann Telnaes drew the other cartoon a week ago. Five media billionaires (Post owner Jeff Bezos, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong, artificial intelligence wheeler-dealer Sam Altman, and the Disney Corporation) offer bags of money to Donald Trump. Telnaes had been a Post editorial-page cartoonist since 2008, but when her editor refused to publish this cartoon, she resigned.
How do we know this is so? What is the situation? Who are the liars? Why is this important? Finally, what should we do about it? The future of the world’s working class and the fight for an egalitarian world of what Marxist researcher Charles Andrews has called “No Rich, No Poor,” depends on what we do.
I began to discuss this question in an earlier article titled “Marxists Behaving Badly” which you can download from my Home Page. However, that was a very partial discussion of this enormous challenge to all of us. In my talk today I intend to confront this crisis more directly.
“The PCV, throughout its history, has faced, has stood up, has resisted the offensive of imperialism against our country and this is not going to be a different situation: we Venezuelan communists are in favor of the defense of the sovereignty of our homeland,” declared Neirlay Andrade, member of the Political Bureau of the PCV.
We welcome the exchange agreement and ceasefire, despite the deadly stalling that characterizes the right-wing government in Israel.
From day one, we called for an agreement that would bring everyone home—prisoners, abductees, detainees and hostages, Israelis and Palestinians alike. Such an agreement was possible and could have saved the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of Israelis.
The Arctic, and thus also Greenland, has enormous geostrategic importance, among other things due to its location close to Russia and China. With the melting of the ice in the Arctic, the coveted northern corridor is moving closer to reality. Trade routes are about to change, and thus interest in Greenland and its resources increases. It is increasing as the monopolies' competition for markets globally is intensifying day by day.
On 7 January 2025, the most destructive wildfire in the history of Los Angeles broke out in the Palisades neighborhood of the city.
The blaze has leveled thousands of homes and structures, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to flee. LA, a city with a metropolitan population of nearly 13 million, is now blanketed by the smoke from the fires, reducing air quality to dangerous levels.
“Delusional,” “clumsy,” “paranoid.” These are just some of the descriptions that accompany the reports about the statements of the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, on Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Last Tuesday, Trump stated in the press conference that he does not rule out the use of military force to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, since - as he said - US control of both these areas is “vital” to American national security.
On the night of January 7, the disappearance of Márquez, leader of the Centrados en la Gente party and member of the Popular Democratic Front (FDP), a platform that groups together left-wing, popular and revolutionary political and social organizations, among them the PCV, was confirmed.
What they mean is that energy poverty and more expensive goods will require people to dig deep into their pockets again.

Joe Slovo with Nelson Mandela |
Born as Yossel Mashel Slovo on 23 May 1926 in Obelai, Lithuania, Slovo’s journey to South Africa at the age of nine marked the beginning of his lifelong commitment to the working class and its struggles. His childhood hardships forced him to start working in a warehouse at the age of sixteen, where he encountered the harsh realities of capitalist exploitation.
On December 5 and 6, the 65th Summit of Presidents of Mercosur (Southern Common Market) was held in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay.
The meeting was attended by the presidents of Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia -which recently became a full member of the bloc- and representatives of associated countries such as Colombia, Peru, Chile and Panama.
Imperialism is not the creation of any one or of any group of states. It is the product of a particular stage of ripeness in the world development of capital, an innately international condition, an indivisible whole, that is recognizable only in all its relations, and from which no nation can hold aloof at will…
- Rosa Luxemburg, The Crisis of German Social Democracy (1916)
The dissolution of the Soviet Union and the counterrevolutionary events in Eastern Europe in 1989-1991 marked the biggest blow to the international communist movement. Bourgeois thinkers, like the notorious Francis Fukuyama, predicted the “end of History”, as capitalism was emerging triumphantly victorious from the Cold War. Some Communist Parties were completely dissolved, others were incorporated into the emerging social democracy and many of them saw a dramatic shrink of their electoral influence.
More specifically, the statement (here in Greek) reads:
"But the harder the governments and the bourgeoisie of all countries try to disunite the workers and pit them against one another, and the more savagely they enforce, for this lofty aim, martial law and the military censorship (…), the more pressingly is it the duty of the class-conscious proletariat to defend its class solidarity, its internationalism, and its socialist convictions against the unbridled chauvinism of the “patriotic” bourgeois cliques in all countries"
— The War and Russian Social-Democracy. Lenin.
