Pompeo Go Home! Militant rally in Thessaloniki against the visit of the U.S Secretary of State

On Monday 28 September, thousands of people protested in Thessaloniki, Greece's largest city, against the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Workers, students, trade unionists, members of the anti-imperialist movement and the Committee for International Detente and Peace (EDYETH) marched in the city center, expressing their strong opposition to the deeper involvement of Greece in the dangerous U.S.-NATO plans in the region. 

Statement of the KKE on US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visit to Greece

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is due to visit Greece on September 28-30. 

According to the State Department’s official press statement, “Secretary Pompeo will meet with Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Dendias to renew our shared commitment to advance security, peace, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean and celebrate the strongest U.S.-Greek relationship in decades. In Thessaloniki, the Secretary will sign a bilateral science and technology agreement, as well as host energy sector business leaders for a discussion to highlight energy diversification and infrastructure projects in Greece.  In Crete, the Secretary will visit Naval Support Activity Souda Bay to underscore the strong U.S. security partnership with NATO Ally Greece.”

KKE: Turkey’s aggression in East Mediterranean is fostered by the U.S, NATO and EU

The situation in eastern Mediterranean and the tensions between Turkey and Greece was one of the major issues discussed during the extraordinary EU Foreign Ministers Council which was concluded on Friday. Earlier, Greece’s Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met with the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Vienna.  

Referring to his meeting with Pompeo, Dendias expressed his satisfaction for the “clear stance of the State Department” against Turkey’s provocations, thanking the U.S. Secretary of State on behalf of the Greek government. He also expressed satisfaction for the EU partners’ “support to Greece and Cyprus”. 

Israeli Communist Party: The settlements is a war crime endorsed by the United States

The Israeli Communist Party and the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Al-Jabha/Hadash) condemn US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's statement on Monday, November 18, that Israel's settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 do not contravene international law.

This statement plainly reaffirms the US administration's unequivocal support for the policy of the Netanyahu government and the right-wing settlement project to the detriment of the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people, for the recognition of a “united Jerusalem,” for the elimination of the refugee issue, and for the erasure of the Green Line, all within the framework of the “Deal of the Century” and with the complicity of the Arab regimes.

Mitsotakis, Pompeo shake hands, transforming Greece into a vast U.S-NATO base

The second round of the Greece-United States Strategic Dialogue began on Monday in the wake of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Athens, which marked an upgrade of the Defence Agreement with Greece. 

As we have mentioned in previous articles, the Agreement includes the modernization and expansion of the U.S. military installations in Greece.

Thousands of workers, people of every age, participate in today's demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki and other Greek cities against the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 

With slogans like "neither soil nor water to the murderers of the people" and "Close down the bases, no participation in NATO's wars", the demonstrators gathered at Syntagma Square in Athens. The protest was attended by the General Secretary of  the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas who, talking to reporters, pointed out the following:

POMPEO GO HOME: Greek anti-imperialists to protest against Mike Pompeo's visit in Athens

The anti-imperialist movement in Greece prepares a militant "welcome" for the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who is going to visit the country on Saturday 5th of October. 

Demonstrations against the renewal of the Greece-U.S. Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) and the visit of Pompeo have been scheduled to take place in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities. 

In a statement issued today, the Political Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) calls "the workers, the people and the youth to rise against the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and mainly against the transformation of Greece into a vast US-NATO base".

Greece — U.S. military installations in Crete and the mainland to be upgraded and extended

Greece's involvement in the imperialist plans of U.S. and NATO increases as a result of the agreement between the U.S. and Greek governments which upgrades and extends the american military installations in the country. 

According to an exclusive report published in "Rizospastis" on Monday, within the framework of the "Greece-USA Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreeement (MDCA)", the governments of the United States and Greece have agreed to extend the U.S. Naval Base in Souda, Crete, as well as to proceed to the creation of new military installations. The agreement is due to take place in 2020. 

Greek anti-imperialist movement calls for action against USA-Greece military agreement

In a statement issued this week the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) announces that it will undertake initiatives and organize mobilizations against the "Greece-USA Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement". 

Under the slogan "NO TO BASES, NO TO NUCLEAR WEAPONS", EEDYE calls the people's movement to stand against the dangerous imperialist plans in the region, focusing on the upcoming visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Athens in the beginning of October.

Cuban Foreign Minister slams U.S. aggression: "Bolton and Pompeo lie again and again"

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said today that lies are the basis of the aggressive escalation of the United States against Latin America.

'Bolton and Pompeo lie again and again (...) Accusations vs. #Cuba is a vulgar slander. Blackmail is unacceptable. They look for pretexts to intensify the blockade and hostility against the Island, 'the foreign minister wrote in his account on the social network Twitter.

Earlier, Rodriguez rejected the pronouncements of the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, who accused the largest of the Antilles of being 'the true imperialist power in Venezuela.' 

KKE: Statement on the trilateral Greece - Cyprus - Israel summit with the US participation

On the occasion of the trilateral summit in Jerusalem between Greece, Cyprus and Israel, with the participation of the United States of America, the Press Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) issued the following statement:

"The trilateral meeting in Jerusalem between Greece - Cyprus - Israel, with the participation of the American Secretary of State is being presented a “milestone” in developments.

The SYRIZA government is 'leading the dance', which up until a few days ago hoped that the trilateral meeting would be hosted in Crete and that the participation of Pompeo would be recorded as yet another recognition of its "offer" to  American-NATO designs in the eastern Mediterranean and wider.

U.S. warmonger security advisor John Bolton to advance hardline on Venezuela-Cuba

The newly appointed U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton is expected to take a hardline stance against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his administration, it has been revealed.

The former ambassador to the United Nations was described by a senior U.S. official as someone who "always emphasized how Cuba and Venezuela and Nicaragua have undermined U.S. interests throughout the region."

"He's a warmonger, and Latin Americans get nervous when American presidents tend to lean toward military versus diplomatic solutions," a National Security Council official for former President Barack Obama told the Miami Herald. "It's a militaristic style that won't go down well in Latin America."
