Oskar Lafontaine resigns from Die Linke

Oskar Lafontaine, one of Germany's prominent social democratic politicians, has left Die Linke, the party he co-founded in 2007.

“I wanted there to be a left-wing alternative to the politics of social insecurity and inequality on the political spectrum, which is why I co-founded Die Linke. Today's left has given up that claim” the 78-year-old politician announced on Thursday in Saarbrücken.

According to Lafontaine, the background is “the gradual change in the political profile of the left” from 2015. It has become a party “in which the interests of employees and pensioners and a foreign policy based on international law and peace are no longer the focus”.

Die Linke supported the ban of German Communist Party

On 9 July we wrote that the Federal Election Commission announced that the German Communist Party (DKP) will not be allowed to participate in September's Bundestag elections and at the same time will be deprived of its status as a political party.

The pretext for this shameful decision was the alleged late submission of financial statements.

Several Communist and Workers' Parties from across the world have strongly condemned the decision of the Commission and expressed its solidarity to the DKP.

German Communist Party reiterates solidarity towards Cuba

A few days ago, under the pretext of "political rights" and "democracy", the German social democratic party Die Linke adopted a despicable resolution in support of counterrevolutionaties in Cuba.

Contrary to Die Linke, the German Communist Party (DKP) issued a statement clearly reiterating its firm solidarity and support towards Cuba

The statement reads:

"Recently, especially in Germany, there have been more and more statements from the ranks of left forces who think they can make "clever" proposals to the people, the government and the Communist Party in Cuba for a change in Cuba's policy. The Left Party (Die Linke) calls for dialogue with the so-called opposition in Cuba.

Germany's Die Linke party adopts anti-Cuban resolution

A recent decision of the German Die Linke party confirms what is already known: the role of social democracy as a timeless instrument of imperialism and an enemy of the working people. At its last meeting, the Party's executive committee decided to adopt a hostile position towards Cuba by declaring its support for the counter-revolutionary group known as “San Isidro Movement”.

According to Neues Deutschland newspaper, Die Linke - a leading member of the Party of the European Left - adopted with a majority of 90% a resolution about the “democratization of Cuban society”, with which it expresses solidarity with the so-called “dissidents”. Under the pretext of “human rights”, Die Linke's social democrats advocate in favor of the US-backed counter-revolutionary efforts in Cuba

Belgium's Communist Party (PCB) withdraws membership from the "European Left"

The recent Congress of the Communist Party of Belgium (Le Parti Communiste de Belgique), which took place in Brussels, decided with a 83% majority to withdraw the Party's membership from the Party of the European Left (PEL).

According to PCB, several reasons led to this decision, including PEL's hostility towards historical socialism (20th century socialism), as well as the "unacceptable attitude of the European Left's leaders towards NATO".

German Elections 2017: Declaration by the German Communist Party on the results of the Bundestag elections

On the occasion of the 24th of September elections in Germany, the German Communist Party (Deutsche Kommunistische Partei) issued the following statement:

The result of the election represents a shift to the right with all dangers entailed with it. The AfD is a racist, nationalist force, a hinge to the frank Fascists, becoming the third-strongest party in the Bundestag with 13 percents. It is the strongest Party in Saxony and the second strongest in all East Germany. CDU, SPD, Green and Left Party lost voters to the AfD.

The unbearable hypocrisy of the Party of the European Left towards Cuba

According to news reports, in the inauguration of the 5th Congress of the Party of the European Left (EL), which takes place in Berlin, the participants kept a minute of silence as a tribute to the late Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro

The Party of the European Left, which is composed by social democratic (e.g. SYRIZA, Die Linke etc.) and opportunist parties (e.g. French Communist Party), tries to pose as a "friend" of Socialist Cuba. What an irony!

However, in 2013, the same "European Left" was applauding the known Cuban anticommunist Guillermo Farinas when he was receiving the Sakharov Prize at the European Parliament! The award ceremony, back in 2013, had been attended by Gabi Zimmer, member of the German 'Die Linke' party and president of the GUE/NGL European Parliamentary Group.
