The complex relations between the largest countries where communist parties were in power ran like a red thread through the most important world political events, starting from the second half of the fifties and up to the end of the seventies of the last century. 

 

The fierce polemic and open confrontation between the Communist Party of China and the CPSU caused an unprecedented split in the international communist movement, the echoes of which are still heard.

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin dies at 96

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died on Wednesday, as a result of leukemia and multiple organ failure, Xinhua news agency announced. He was 96 years old .

Jiang served as President from 1993 to 2003 with a policy focusing on the further liberalization of China's capitalist economy and the attraction of foreign investments. He is often credited by western media for successfully integrating China into the “international community”. 

Marxism, Marxism-Leninism, and Xi Jinping's Report to 20th Congress

Facts count more than words. Xi Jinping says, "China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries." A couple of days later, the Chinese Consul General in Manchester stepped onto UK territory outside the consulate gate. He grabbed a demonstrator from a noisy but peaceful rally, dragged him into the consulate compound, and had his staff beat the man up.

However, for those persons still wedded to evaluating the PRC by its words, let us look at how Xi Jinping's report to the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) uses "Marxism" and "Marxism-Leninism." His 25,000-word speech contains exactly one mention of Lenin or Leninism:

In the struggle between the United States and China for the leadership in the imperialist system, we see each side “dressing” the interests of its monopolies with the appropriate ideological cover. Last December, during the first ten days, the U.S. held the so-called “Summit for Democracy”, selectively calling representatives of 110 capitalist countries and excluding some of them, such as China and Russia.

China, on the other hand, prepared its own “response” with a statement drawn up by the Communist Party of China and signed by 355 political parties, social organizations and think tanks. The Communist Party of China has not released the full list of these parties/organizations. 

Hanna Gharib: The socialist ideology has succeeded in the battle against Covid-19, whereas capitalism failed

This pandemic had explicitly showed the greedy side of the capitalist system", was the message conveyed by Hanna Gharib, General Secretary of the Lebanese Communist Party, during the online lecture “Socialism and Capitalism in post-COVID-19 era”, organized by the Chinese Communist Party, in partnership with Arab Leftist Parties. 

Hanna Gharib referred on how states like China, Cuba and Vietnam succeeded against the COVID-19 pandemic, in sharp contrast with the failure of most capitalist states to protect their people. (Read here his speech)

Xi Jinping praises Marxism while China deepens its capitalist transformation

Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised Karl Marx as "the greatest thinker of modern times," calling his theories a tool for China to "win the future", according to a recent report by Xinhua. 

President Xi gave a speech last Friday at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing, during an event marking the bicentennial of Marx's birth in 1818 in Germany.

The most valuable and influential spiritual asset that Marx left us is the scientific theory named after him -- Marxism. Like a spectacular sunrise, the theory illuminated the path of humanity's exploration of the law of history, and humanity's search for their own liberation, Xi said.
