Meta is axing 10% of its workforce (roughly 8,000 real people) with cuts beginning in May and more planned later this year. 

Projections show deeper reductions could reach 20% by year’s end. Amazon is gutting over 30,000 corporate jobs, another 10% slice of its white-collar staff. These are not ‘streamlining’ measures. They are decisions driven by the structural logic of capitalist accumulation, presented as ‘AI efficiency.’”

In the era of the great bourgeois revolutions—of the French Revolution and the American Revolution—and throughout the upheavals of 1848, the rising bourgeoisie shattered feudal bonds, dissolved hereditary privilege, and dismantled archaic hierarchies that had long obstructed productive development. Against feudal particularism and static social relations, capitalism was historically revolutionary. It unified national markets, accelerated scientific discovery, expanded industry, and proclaimed equality before the law—however limited and formal that equality ultimately proved to be.

The much-publicized Epstein scandal is persistently described as a “dark anomaly,” a moral rupture inside an otherwise functioning system. This description is false. What it conceals is more important than what it reveals. The affair did not expose a deviation from capitalism but one of its normal, if usually less visible, operations. By treating Epstein as an exception, bourgeois discourse shields the system that made him possible.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit meeting was used to foster new illusions among the peoples. Certain forces see imperialism merely as the “empire” of the USA and on this basis they salute the promotion of new emerging capitalist powers in global affairs, such as the emergence of new inter-state unions (BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Collective Security Treaty Organization, ALBA etc.), which are formed by capitalist states, with an economic–political and military content.

The Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska was used to cultivate complacency and false hopes that a compromise between the imperialist powers could lead to the elimination of the causes of war and "real peace" for the peoples, which would put an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine. Here are two editorial art pieces about capitalists and the state. John Heartfield put together a montage in 1932 dramatizing that big capitalists like Fritz Thyssen, owner of United Steelworks, financed the Nazi party. Heartfield was a prolific artist, a lifelong communist, and an early member of the German Communist Party.

Ann Telnaes drew the other cartoon a week ago. Five media billionaires (Post owner Jeff Bezos, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong, artificial intelligence wheeler-dealer Sam Altman, and the Disney Corporation) offer bags of money to Donald Trump. Telnaes had been a Post editorial-page cartoonist since 2008, but when her editor refused to publish this cartoon, she resigned.
