Statement of the National Political Commission of Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro- PCB) on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the 1964 military coup:

 
The 60th anniversary of the 1964 military coup, which inaugurated a 21-year dictatorship, occurs at a complex and adverse time for the Brazilian working class. Although Bolsonaro was defeated electorally, with a candidacy that claimed the most brutal crimes of the dictatorship, the far right that supported him remained active, gaining a strong presence in the National Congress and preserving significant support in various sectors of society.

Brazilian Communist Party: Mass struggle against coup d'état! Fascists will not pass!

The following statement was issued by the
National Political Commission of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB):

On the afternoon of that Sunday, January 8, supporters of Jair Bolsonaro invaded the National Congress and tried to occupy buildings of other public bodies, with the intention of promoting disturbances and giving rise to a coup d'état.

This movement has been articulated for months by sectors of the Brazilian ultra-right, which has strong financial support from businessmen and segments of the military police and the Armed Forces. In different media, extreme right groups have openly guided demonstrations of non-recognition of election results and attacks on democracy.

Brazilian communist leader Ivan Pinheiro honored in Mexico

Ivan Pinheiro, General Secretary of the Brazilian Communist Party from 2005 to 2016, was honored by the Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) with the “David Alfaro Siqueiros Medal for Revolutionary Merit”, as a recognition of his contribution to the communist movement in Brazil and Latin America.

Pinheiro, a lawyer by profession who stood as a candidate at the 2010 Presidental Elections in Brazil, received the medal during the 7th Congress of the PCM on December 17, 2022.

Brazil presidential election: Meet the Communist Party candidates Sofia Manzano and Antônio Alves

The Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) has presented its pre-candidates for the presidential election of October 2nd. Sofia Manzano, professor and economist, is the presidential nominee and Antonio Alves, trade unionist, has been selected as the candidate vice president. 
 
The PCB candidates have presented an anti-capitalist political program while engaging in dialogue with workers throughout Brazil about their needs and demands.

Sofia Manzano: “Communism is the most generous proposal humanity has ever produced”

“Communism is the most generous proposal humanity has ever produced”, said Sofia Manzano, the  candidate of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) for October's presidential election, during an interview with “Brasil de Fato” newspaper earlier this month.

Talking about the centenary of the PCB, which was celebrated on March 25th, and the current struggle of Brazil's communists, Manzano pointed out that the Communist Party emerged as a need of the working class to organize herself along the lines of the example that the 1917 Great October Socialist Revolution presented.

Brazilian Communist Party marks its 100th anniversary

Today, 25th March 2022, the political vanguard of Brazil's working class, the Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro-PCB), marks its 100th anniversary.

"Created in 1922 by militant workers and intellectuals who organized the first strikes of the working class at the beginning of the 20th century against capitalist exploitation and the oppression of the bourgeois state, inspired by the victorious socialist revolution in Russia in 1917 and its achievements, the communists of the PCB built a new benchmark for the political struggle of the working class, establishing itself as an organization that sought to boost the class struggle under a revolutionary perspective towards socialism", reads a declaration by the Party's National Political Committee.

Brazilian Communist Party launches Sofia Manzano as pre-candidate for 2022 presidential election

In a statement, the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) announced that Sofia Manzano will be its pre-candidate for the presidential elections that are scheduled to take place on 2 October 2022.

The Central Committee of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB), meeting this weekend, decided to launch professor Sofia Manzano as a pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic. Economist, PhD in Economic History from USP and PCB activist since the age of 17, Sofia Manzano is a professor at the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB) and has a long trajectory in the struggles of youth and the trade union movement.

Brazil: Communists bid farewell to Maria Prestes

"Maria Prestes: Present, today and always" reads a statement signed by Edmilson Costa, General Secretary of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB). 

The widow of long-time Brazilian communist leader Luiz Carlos Prestes, died on Friday in Rio de Janeiro due to complications from Covid-19. She was 92 years old. “A communist proud of her battle and the most great grandmother anybody might ever have,” Maria’s granddaughter wrote on Twitter.

Rio de Janeiro massacre: Brazilian Communist Party blasts Bolsonaro's "genocidal government"

"We denounce that an extermination is underway, a racist and elitist policy conducted by the extreme right government of Cláudio Castro in the State of Rio de Janeiro, in alignment with the genocidal government of Bolsonaro and Mourão", reads a statement of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) following the massacre in Jacarezinho neighborhood which led to the deaths of 25 people.

"Once again the public security policy, with its logic of confrontation and slaughter, led to panic and fear among the population. The result of this criminal action was the largest slaughter (known) in the history of Rio de Janeiro. Bursts of gunfire, helicopters with snipers, armored vehicles and grenades weaved the morning scenery in Jacarezinho, added to reports of home invasions, assaults and illegal seizures of mobile phones", points out the Rio de Janeiro Regional Committee of PCB.

In Brazil we have been experiencing two simultaneous crises: a deep, political crisis that is worsening at every moment, as shown in Bolsonaro’s recent speech at the United Nations Organization, in which he stated that Brazil has been taking adequate care of the environment, on the very moment that there are fires all over the Amazon and the Pantanal regions, a speech that has brought about criticism all over the world.

Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) denounces Bolsonaro for "crimes against humanity"

In a statement regarding the current situation in Brazil, the COVID-19 pandemic and the policy of the far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro) points out:

The capitalist crisis, aggravated by the global Coronavirus pandemic, continues to aggravate and threaten peoples' lives. The number of people infected and killed by COVID-19 increases. Even in this scenario, imperialism continues to show its claws to maintain the profit rates of the capitalist monopolies at any cost.

Brazil's communists call for broad electoral democratic front against Bolsonaro

A broad electoral democratic front against the fascist presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro is in the making in Brazil, after the results of the first round and two weeks before the second round on October 28th. 

In the first round, the far-right Bolsonaro received 46% of the votes while the candidate of the social democratic Workers' Party (PT) Fernando Haddad got 29.3%.

In a statement, the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB)- the leader of which, Manuela D'Ávila is Haddad's vice presidential candidate- calls for broad support towards Haddad on the basis of the unity of the left forces. Solidarity with comrade Taly Nayandra of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB)

With a statement, the Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro) strongly denounces the brutality of the Brazilian Military Police against the PCB and Communist Youth Union's member Taly Nayandra Figueira dos Santos.

A indigenous activist and militant communist, Nayandra has been a candidate for vice-mayor in the city of Manaus, in the region of Amazonas.

According to the PCB, comrade Taly Nayandra was arrested by the local Military Police on Saturday 25th of February and suffered physical and psychological torture for more than an hour. 

Nayandra was placed in a room alone and was severely beaten by police officers with punches, face slaps and kicks, while she was also psychologically battered. After all this torture, she was left alone in a street of São Raimundo neighborhood in Manaus.
