KKE denounces European Union's new anti-communist initiative for the "European Day of the Righteous"

In a statement, the EU Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounces the new initiative of the European Union which equates Communism with the monster of Nazism. 

More specifically, the KKE statement (here in Greek) reads:

"With the EU Commission being the initiator of a debate-parade of anti-communists in the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the EU is working on another anti-communist and unhistorical 'day of remembrance' under the name of 'European Day of Righteous'.

In addition to 23 August, which has been unsuccessfully trying to establish for years, and evoking the paper war of its earlier anti-communist resolutions, it is seeking to establish 6 March as the "European Day against Totalitarian Regimes". Only the twisted minds of the servants of capital, of the EU, could link communism with the Holocaust of the Jews, one of the most atrocious crimes committed by the Nazis that humanity has ever known. This 'written declaration' of 2012 was signed by MEPs from the New Democracy, PASOK, LAOS, MEPs from the so-called 'left' GUE, along with notorious figures such as Jean-Marie Le Pen, Salvini and others.

However, the deceitful and untruthful sermons of the EU and the European Parliament lobby are crushed in the face of historical truth. Because in the concentration camps, the Nazis carried out the physical and spiritual extermination of thousands of prisoners, both Jews and Soviet captives, by every means possible. Only in Auschwitz, 960,000 Jews and 15,000 Soviet captives (out of the 3.3 million who were killed in total) met a horrific death.

In the Nazi camps of forced and unpaid labour hundreds of thousands of workers, among them Jews and communists, worked as slaves, for the benefit of the big German monopolies (see Siemens, Krupp etc.), while by the end of 1945 about 25,000 prisoners - workers were exterminated.

This year, which marks the 80th anniversary of the Great Anti-Fascist Victory of the Peoples, the shocking epic of the Soviet Union and the heroic Red Army stands as the best and most compelling response to all these atrocities. With 20 million dead and 10 million wounded and disabled in the struggle to crush the Nazi monster, with the communists leading the way, they put an end once and for all to these horrors and brutal crimes, closing the hellholes and liberating their prisoners, bringing relief to all humanity.

This historical truth is what they are trying to conceal, and they are doing so especially now as the war preparations of the EU intensify, with the 800 billion ReArm Europe fund, while trade wars are escalating, causing people to bleed literally and economically. It is not a coincidence that the escalation of imperialist wars goes hand in hand with the intensification of anti-communism. 

They attack the communists because they are the ones who stand up on the front lines to give the people the strength to resist their imperialist war plans. Because they are the ones who stand alongside the peoples against the imperialist slaughter in Ukraine and the genocide of the Palestinian people by the state-murderer Israel. In fact, the EU and the occupying state of Israel today equally baselessly accuse anyone who opposes the atrocities and war crimes of Netanyahu's government of anti-Semitism.

The conclusion is this: it is the rotten capitalist system that generates and reproduces war, exploitation, nationalism, racism, fascism, lies, historical distortion, and anti-communism. Such is the repulsive so-called "rule of law" of the EU that all bourgeois parties proclaim.

No matter how much ink they spill, no matter how many unhistorical European and global days they fabricate, the historical truth and the justice of the communists, the peoples, and their struggle will shine. The only way out for the peoples from today's capitalist barbarism is the new world, socialism-communism!"
