Communist Parties across the world express solidarity with the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP)

Statements of solidarity by Communist and Workers' Parties to the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), in the face of the ongoing political developments in Turkey and the detention of protesting TKP members by the authorities:

Communist Party of Greece (KKE)

The KKE condemns the decision of the Turkish state and the AKP government to arrest and remove from office the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, the repression of demonstrations and the mass arrests of demonstrators, including cadres of the Communist Party of Turkey and the Communist Youth of Turkey, as well as journalists.

These developments once again expose the EU, NATO and the USA, which have made the Erdoğan government a strategic partner and a ‘guardian’ of their interests in the region. They show the intensification of the intra-bourgeois contradictions, for which the people will pay the price.

The KKE expresses its solidarity with the Turkish people and the Communist Party of Turkey and demands an end to the repression and persecution and the release of those arrested.

Party of Labour of Austria (PdA)

The Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) declares its solidarity with the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in view of the unlawful arrest of several TKP members. The Party of Labour condemns the repression by the AKP government.

On 24 March, the head of the TKP's Istanbul provincial organisation, Ahmet Dincel, Party Council member Arda Hacıyusufoğlu and four other party members were arrested by the police. The pretext for these arrests is the TKP's involvement in the protests in Saraçhane in Istanbul against the recent wave of arrests and repression in Turkey.

This repression is part of a broader strategy by the AKP government to curtail political space and undermine the fundamental democratic right of people in Turkey to participate in politics. Recent events, including the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, as well as numerous other opposition figures, highlight the profound crisis facing the AKP government.

The TKP has taken a clear stance from the outset and called on the people of Turkey to organise against the AKP's arbitrary rule. Protests were organised in several cities to defend the right to vote and to denounce the government's repressive measures. Meanwhile, the AKP and its propaganda organs are trying to portray the justified protests as operations allegedly controlled by ‘foreign powers’ in order to divert attention from their own political and economic failures.

The Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria condemns the repression against the TKP members and all progressive forces in Turkey. We stand in solidarity with the TKP and the working class in Turkey who are fighting for democracy and socialism.

Freedom for the imprisoned TKP members!

Long live international solidarity!

Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE)

Dear comrades of TKP,

We have recently heard the news that several members of the TKP have been arrested on the grounds that they took part in the demonstration in Saraçhane.

We would like to send you a message of solidarity on behalf of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain, wishing for the prompt release of the arrested comrades.

We take this message to salute the enormous work that your party, the TKP, is doing in the country at this important moment, organising the anger against the AKP government and strengthening the workers' movement and the ranks of the party.

Revolutionary greetings.

Palestinian Communist Party & Palestinian Communist Youth Union

We are following with deep concern and strong condemnation the repressive campaign targeting our comrades in the Communist Party of Turkey, which comes as part of a fierce attack on the revolutionary forces and the working class in Turkey. These arbitrary measures, aimed at restricting political freedoms and party activity, reaffirm that class struggle remains at the core of the confrontation between the forces of revolutionary change and the regimes of oppression and exploitation.

What the Communist Party of Turkey is facing is part of a reactionary and obscurantist agenda designed to crush the workers’ movement and the revolutionary forces, ensuring the continued dominance of capital and reactionary forces at the expense of the people’s rights and dignity. This direct targeting of communist militants reflects the fear of authoritarian regimes from the consciousness of the masses and their legitimate struggle against poverty, exploitation, and political repression.

The Palestinian Communist Party and the Palestinian Communist Youth Union express their full solidarity with the arrested comrades and call for their immediate and unconditional release. We also reaffirm our support for the Communist Party of Turkey in its struggle against tyranny and the reactionary agenda that seeks to silence every revolutionary and progressive voice, as well as in its ongoing fight for social justice, workers’ rights, and people’s power.

We will continue to raise our voices in the global solidarity campaign and actively participate in all efforts to expose and condemn these crimes, including spreading messages of solidarity through our platforms and addressing relevant authorities to demand an immediate halt to these violations.

Long live the struggle of the working class against exploitation and oppression!
Long live proletarian internationalism and global solidarity!
Long live the Communist Party of Turkey in its battle against obscurantism and tyranny!

Communist Party of Denmark

The Communist Party of Denmark (DKP) strongly condemns the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, the repression of, and violence against the demonstrations against the repressive AKP government, and the recent arrest of our comrades from the Turkish Communist Party (TKP).

These arrests are a direct attack on the democratic rights of the Turkish people and on all those who fight for a better future. The AKP government, which is taking increasingly harsh action against the people, is trying to crush any form of resistance through oppression, arrests and violence.

We declare our full solidarity with the TKP and all political prisoners who are being detained because of their struggle against repression. The working class and progressive forces in Turkey will not allow themselves to be intimidated.

Solidarity with the TKP! Freedom for our comrades from TKP and freedom for all political prisoners!

New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN)

The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) strongly condemns the recent arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, the repression of, and violence against the large-scale demonstrations against the repressive AKP government, and the recent arrest of our comrades from the Turkish Communist Party (TKP).

These arrests are a direct attack on the democratic rights of the Turkish people and on all those who fight for a better future for the Turkish people. The capitalist AKP government, which is taking increasingly harsh action against the people, is trying to crush any form of resistance through oppression, arrests and violence. Meanwhile, the EU, NATO and the US are working closely with Erdoğan’s AKP government to safeguard their interests in the region.

We declare our full solidarity with the TKP and all political prisoners who are being detained because of their struggle against the growing repression. The working class and progressive forces in Turkey will not allow themselves to be intimidated by repression.

The NCPN calls for the immediate release of those arrested and supports the struggle of the Turkish labour movement and communists against the capitalist and authoritarian rule of the AKP.

Solidarity with the TKP! Freedom for all political prisoners!

Fronte Comunista

German Communist Party (DKP)

The German Communist Party declares its solidarity with the Communist Party of Turkey and especially with the comrades arrested during the current protests. We demand immediate release of our Turkish comrades and all persons arrested currently.

Tudeh Party of Iran

In recent weeks, Turkey has been the scene of widespread public protest demonstrations. These demonstrations began on 19 March 2025, following the action of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government to arrest Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of Istanbul, and around 100 figures affiliated with the Republican People's Party (CHP), the most powerful party in opposition to the Turkish government.  Millions of Turkish citizens and a diverse range of groups opposing the AKP government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have participated in these anti-government demonstrations.  Most of the country's progressive forces and opposition parties, including the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), have actively joined these protest demonstrations.

The participation of workers, trade union activists, and students has also been significant in these demonstrations.  Lectures have been suspended in many universities, and students - especially left-wing students - have actively participated in this burgeoning protest movement.

The leadership of the TKP has assessed the arrests and roundups of 19 March as a measure by the Erdoğan government to close the political space in the country and begin a process that ensures a "desirable" result in the upcoming presidential elections, scheduled to take place in three years (May 2028).  The TKP have assessed the arrest of İmamoğlu as constituting the beginning of a "new, worrying, and completely illegal phase [in political developments in Turkey]."

The growth of public discontent and the difficult economic situation in Turkey over the past two years has undoubtedly been effective in provoking public protests in that country.  According to statistical data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the inflation rate in Turkey, despite a decrease last fall, was still 39.1 percent in February and March 2024, and the unemployment rate also exceeded 8.8 percent.  From the perspective of the TKP, the economic, political, and social consequences of the recent widespread public protests could lay the groundwork for developments that would shake the foundations of the capitalist system in that country.  Accordingly, the TKP, in its statement, emphasised the urgent necessity of organising an independent and revolutionary struggle to prevent the country's working class and working people from being caught up and trapped in the power struggles between rival factions.

The Tudeh Party of Iran supports the persistent and courageous struggle of the working people of Turkey and the TKP to block the path to the formation of a 'Neo-Ottoman' state and to achieve the real democratisation of political life in the country.

The interventionist policies of the Islamist-capitalist AKP government in Ankara  - a longtime NATO member and ally of the European Union - in the recent developments in Syria, vis-à-vis its active support for the rise to power of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS); its overt intervention in the conflicts between the Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia; and its 50-year-long illegal occupation of northern Cyprus, have all contributed to major instability as well as the continued disruption of peace and tranquillity in the region.

The Tudeh Party of Iran strongly condemns the Erdoğan government's decision to arrest and remove Mayor İmamoğlu from office to detention; the suppression of public demonstrations and protests; and the arrest of thousands of demonstrators, including cadres of the TKP, its youth wing, and journalists.

The Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran once again emphasises its active and internationalist solidarity with the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all its cadres and members as well as all others detained while participating in legal demonstrations in Turkey.
