Communist Party of Turkey: Ahmed Al-Shara is an ISIS remnant and a war criminal

Al-Shara with Erdogan in Ankara, 4/2/2025
In a statement issued on Tuesday 4 February, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) refers to the visit of former ISIS member and current leader of Syria Ahmed Al-Shara in Ankara, where he met with President Rejep Tayyip Erdogan:

"Al-Shara, who was put in charge of Syria after it was destroyed by an international operation, with the collaboration of the US, UK and Israel, is visiting Turkey. This jihadist, remnant of ISIS, is meeting with Erdoğan today.

Al-Shara led jihadist gangs during the civil war in Syria and played a primary role in the disintegration of the country by imperialist actors. The fact that he was recently proclaimed the new president of Syria does not change this fact: Today a war criminal is being hosted in Ankara.

The holdings are most pleased with this visit. The Turkish bourgeoisie is calculating how to get a share in the economic plunder that has begun under the name of “rebuilding Syria”. Their greed for profit is now dragging our country into an environment of great uncertainty and chaos, as it did during the civil war in Syria. Behind the neo-Ottomanist and Islamist political moves there stands this sinister plan.

Turkey continues to be dragged along as part of an international operation in which Israel expands its borders and the US entrenches its hegemony. The poses of the Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the Foreign Minister with Al-Shara do not change the fact that it is Israel and the US who are pulling the strings of this jihadist.

We warn! The security of our country and prosperity of our people cannot be ensured by being part of international operations."
