“Through his television program, Cabello has launched temerarious accusations against the General Secretary of the PCV Central Committee, Oscar Figuera, and against other political leaders who demand respect for the Constitution, the rule of law and popular sovereignty,” stated López.
“This campaign seeks to criminalize politics, peaceful protest and the legitimate demands of the Venezuelan people”, added the leader.
López stressed that, among the people defamed by Cabello, there are also the lawyer María Alejandra Díaz, the former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez and the former mayor of Caracas, Juan Barreto, members of the Democratic Popular Front; platform of which the PCV is a member.
The communist leader made a call to reject this type of “despicable” political practices, which seek to “sow a matrix of opinion to delegitimize the struggle for the restitution of democratic rights”.
“The PSUV is using defamation as a tool to criminalize the legitimate struggle of Venezuelan workers who demand decent wages, fair pensions, respect for union freedom and the reestablishment of collective bargaining,” she stated.
The PCV warned that this campaign is part of an attempt by the Maduro government and the PSUV leadership to “perpetuate itself in power through authoritarian practices that violate the democratic principles enshrined in the 1999 Constitution”.
“We demand that these attacks be stopped and that the Venezuelan people’s right to free expression, peaceful protest and the struggle for their social, economic and political rights be respected”, she concluded.
