KKE leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

In a statement (here in Greek) concerning the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which was established by the UN in 1977, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoumbas notes:

"We join our voices with the voice of the people of Palestine, with the voices of the peoples of the whole world who demand: The genocide that the state of Israel, the war criminal Netanyahu who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, is carrying out in the Gaza Strip with the support of the US, NATO and the EU, must stop here and now.

Today, when conditions for a general ignition have been formed in the Middle East, as well as in Europe, the struggle of our people to stop our country's involvement in the wars, which is escalating under the responsibility of the New Democracy government and the support of the other NATO parties, is gaining critical importance.

Here and now, the government should withdraw the frigate from the Red Sea, end military, economic and political relations with the state of Israel. No pretext for alleged "self-defense" can be heard today, with over 44,000 dead Palestinians, including over 17,000 children, and with the crimes that Israel has committed in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen. No occupying army anywhere in the world has the right to "self-defense".

The only solution is to end the Israeli occupation, with the creation of a unified independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the 1967 borders. The unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament of 2015 to recognize the independent Palestinian state by our country should be implemented immediately.

Freedom to Palestine!"
