“The NATO Summit, which will be held from 9 to11 July 2024, in Washington, D.C., marks a new round of intensification of Euro-Atlantic aggression around the world. In the foreground is the escalation of the imperialist war in Ukraine between the Ukrainian bourgeoisie, which actively supports and is backed by NATO, and capitalist Russia and its own allies, which poses great dangers for the peoples.
Among the decisions to be taken at the NATO Summit are:
- The supply of modern weapons systems, F-16 fighter jets and even military forces to the war front in Ukraine, using long-range missiles for attacks on Russian territory.
- The upgrading of relations with Ukraine through the creations of an ‘institutional bridge’ to its accession to NATO and the funding of the reactionary Zelenskiy government to the tune of€40 billion a year, in addition to the huge sums provided by the USA and NATO and EU member states. In this context, there are even plans to create a NATO ‘senior civilian representative’ post based in Ukraine, similar to what NATO did in Afghanistan during the US occupation.
- The modernization of the nuclear arsenal and the further militarization of space.
- The reinforcement of NATO’s Southern Wing, which includes Greece, and the further strengthening of NATO–EU relations.
- The expansion in the Indo-Pacific region and the strengthening of the alliance with Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, in the context of the rivalry between the USA and China for supremacy in the international imperialist system, as well as NATO’s attempt to court other regions, such as the Caucasus (with an invitation to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) and the Middle East (with an invitation to Arab countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Tunisia, UAE and Bahrain, in addition to Israel).
These are very dangerous decisions and plans, preparations for a generalized imperialist war. They provide support for the murderous state of Israel in its genocide against the Palestinian people and the strengthening of the Euro-Atlantic interventions in the Middle East, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Asia, all over the world.
The Summit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO. Those who celebrate this terrible anniversary are provoking our people and other peoples, because this imperialist organization is identified with hundreds of wars and interventions, with military coups and assassinations of militants, with criminal plans against the peoples.
The New Democracy government bears great responsibility. It is knee-deep in the plans of NATO and is involving our country and our people in the slaughterhouse of war for the interests of the bourgeoisie. It spends billions of euros on armaments for the needs of NATO and the EU. This dangerous policy, which is shaped by all governments, is today supported by SYRIZA, PASOK and the other parties of the system. They are all complicit in turning the country into a US–NATO base, putting the country and its people at great risk.
The KKE, which is at the forefront of the anti-war and anti-imperialist struggles, calls upon the people and the youth to strongly condemn NATO, its Summit and the decisions it will take, to reject it en masse and to fight against the misleading claims of the government and the pro-NATO parties that present the murderous NATO war machine as a “force for security and peace”. To intensify the struggle for the disentanglement of the country from the imperialist wars and plans, for the disengagement from the imperialist alliances, with the working class and the popular forces at the helm of power.”

El pueblo y los jóvenes deben condenar decisivamente la OTAN, la Cumbre y las decisiones que tomará
En su comunicado sobre la Cumbre de la OTAN que tendrá lugar de 9 a 11 de julio en Washington, la Oficina de Prensa del Comité Central del KKE señala lo siguiente:
“La Cumbre de la OTAN de 9 a 11 de julio de 2024 en Washington señala una nueva ronda de intensificación de la agresión euroatlántica en todo el mundo. En primer plano está la escalada de la guerra imperialista en Ucrania entre la burguesía ucraniana, que apoya enérgicamente y es respaldada por la OTAN, y la Rusia capitalista y sus propios aliados, que acarrea grandes peligros para los pueblos.
Las decisiones que se tomarán en la Cumbre de la OTAN incluyen entre otras cosas:
- el envío de sistemas de armas modernos, aviones de combate F-16 e incluso fuerzas militares al frente de guerra en Ucrania, el uso de misiles de largo alcance para asestar golpes en territorio ruso.
- La mejora de las relaciones con Ucrania, mediante la constitución de un “puente institucional” hacia su adhesión a la OTAN, la financiación del gobierno reaccionario de Zelenski con 40 mil millones de euros al año, que se añaden a las grandes sumas de dinero proporcionadas por EE.UU y los Estados miembros de la OTAN y la Unión Europea. En este marco se planifica incluso la creación de un puesto de “alto representante civil” de la OTAN con base en Ucrania, tal como hizo la OTAN en Afganistán durante la ocupación estadounidense.
- La modernización del arsenal nuclear y la mayor militarización del espacio.
- El fortalecimiento del Flanco Sur de la OTAN en la que participa Grecia, y el mayor fortalecimiento de las relaciones entre la OTAN y la Unión Europea.
- La expansión en el Indo-Pacífico y el fortalecimiento de la alianza con Japón, Corea del Sur, Australia y Nueva Zelanda, en el marco de la confrontación entre EE.UU y China por la supremacía en el sistema imperialista mundial, así como el acercamiento de la OTAN a otras regiones como el Cáucaso (con invitación a Armenia, Azerbaiyán, Georgia), el Oriente Medio (con invitación aparte de Israel a países árabes, como Egipto, Jordania, Qatar, Túnez, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Bahrein).
Se trata de decisiones y planes muy peligrosos, preparativos para una guerra imperialista generalizada, apoyo al Estado-asesino de Israel en el genocidio contra el pueblo palestino y fortalecimiento de las intervenciones euroatlánticas en el Oriente Medio, en los Balcanes, en el Cáucaso, en Asia, en todo el mundo.
La Cumbre coincide con el 75 aniversario de la fundación de la OTAN. Quienes “celebran” este doloroso aniversario están provocando a nuestro pueblo y los demás pueblos, porque esta organización imperialista se identifica con cientos de guerras e intervenciones, con golpes de Estado militares y asesinatos de luchadores, con planes criminales contra los pueblos.
El gobierno de la ND tiene grandes responsabilidades. Está profundamente involucrada en los planes imperialistas y está enredando a nuestro país y nuestro pueblo en el matadero de la guerra, en nombre de los intereses de la burguesía. Está gastando miles de millones de euros en armamentos para las necesidades de la OTAN y la Unión Europea. Esta política peligrosa, formulada por todos los gobiernos, es apoyada hoy por SYRIZA, PASOK y los demás partidos sistémicos. Todos ellos son cómplices en la transformación del país en cabeza de puente de EE.UU. y de la OTAN, poniendo a nuestro país y al pueblo en grandes peligros.
El KKE que desempeña un papel principal en las luchas anti-guerra y anti-imperialistas, llama al pueblo y a los jóvenes a condenar decisivamente la OTAN, la Cumbre y las decisiones que tomará, a rechazar masivamente y combatir las afirmaciones engañosas del gobierno y de los partidos que apoyan la OTAN que presentan la máquina de guerra asesina de la OTAN como “fuerza para la seguridad y la paz”. Llama al pueblo a fortalecer la lucha por la desvinculación del país de las guerras y los planes imperialistas, la salida de las alianzas imperialistas, con la clase obrera y las fuerzas populares en el timón del poder.”
