Following the death of Nguyễn Phú Trọng, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) sent a message of condolences to the fraternal Communist Party of Vietnam. The message (here in Greek) reads:
"Dear comrades,
We are saddened to learn of the loss of comrade Nguyễn Phú Trọng, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the past 13 years, who passed away on July 19, 2024.
Cde Nguyễn Phú Trọng served the Communist Party and the people of Vietnam for decades from many responsible positions in the Party and the state. Among other things, he was a member of the CC of the CP of Vietnam from 1994, a member of the PG since 1997, Secretary General of the CC since 2011, President of the National Assembly 2006-2011 and President of the country 2018-2021, while he left behind a rich literary work.
A delegation of our Party, led by the General Secretary of the Central Committee, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, had the pleasure of meeting with him in 2016 during an official visit to Vietnam.
Please convey our solidarity and deepest condolences to the members of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the people and their families".

Nguyen Phu Trong’s State Funeral to be held on 25-26 July
According to announcement of the Communist Party of Vientan, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s funeral will be held as a State Funeral on 25-26 July 2024. Throughout the two days of national mourning from 25 to 26 July 2024, flags will be lowered to half-mast at offices and public spaces, and entertainment events will be suspended.
