Communist Youth of Greece expresses solidarity with the protesting students of Bangladesh

In a statement concerning the student protests in Bangladesh and the state repression that has claimed the lives of hundreds of young people, the International Relations Committee of the Central Council of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) states:

"The Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) expresses its solidarity with the Bangladesh Students' Union and all Bangladeshi students and youth who have been on the streets for weeks against the Hasina government's decision to restore the unfair system of recruitment in the public sector, demanding merit-based recruitment procedures.

 

Israeli communists: Netanyahu's far-right government is igniting a regional war whose price will be paid by all the peoples of the region

In a comment (Hebrew) concerning the new Israeli attack in Beirut, as well as the assassination of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the Communist Party of Israel (Maki) and Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) point out:

"The Israeli government insists on igniting a regional war whose price will be paid by all the peoples of the region, including the citizens of Israel itself! The settler government in Israel is knowingly leading the region to ignite an extensive regional war that will wreak havoc on all the peoples of the region, including the citizens of the State of Israel itself.

KKE denounces Israeli attack in Beirut and Haniyeh's assassination

In a statement (here in Greek) concerning the recent Israeli attack in Beirut and the assassination of Hamas' leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) warns about an unpredictable escalation of war in the Middle East.

"The KKE denounces the new murderous attack by Israel on Beirut which, combined with the assassination of the leader of Hamas in Tehran, leads to unpredictable escalation of the war and a general conflagration in the Middle East.

KKE honors heroic Greek communist Nikos Ploumpidis

In an emotionally powerful event held in Lagadia, Peloponnese, on Sunday afternoon, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and hundreds of working men and women honored one of the most venerable figures of the Greek communist movement, Nikos Ploumpidis (1902-1954).

The event, which was attended by the General Secretary of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas and Ploumpidis' namesake grandson, Nikos, was marked by the unveiling of a bust and memorial dedicated to the heroic communist.

Palestinian and Israeli Communists meet in Ramallah to coordinate struggle against war and occupation

A high-level tripartite leadership meeting was held in the city of Ramallah in July between delegations representing the leadership bodies of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI), the Palestinian People’s Party (PPP), and the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash).

The meeting reviewed the latest political and battlefield developments considering the ongoing war and genocide to which the Palestinian people are being subjected, especially in the Gaza Strip. It also discussed ways to enhance the struggle and joint action of all three organizations.

Russia: Joseph Stalin's statue vandalized in Zvenigorod

An unknown man wielding a sledgehammer has decapitated a statue honoring Soviet leader and architect of the 1945 Great Antifascist Victory, Joseph Stalin, in the city of Zvenigorod, near Moscow, Russian state media reported.

Video taken showed the suspect staggering around the statue before knocking its head off in what appeared to be one swoop and walking away.

"On Saturday, in one of Zvenigorod's parks, a man in an unwell state knocked the head off the bust of Joseph Stalin with a sledgehammer," a law enforcement source told the state-run RIA news agency.

Nepal's communist Premier K P Sharma Oli wins vote of confidence in Parliament, secures two-thirds majority

Nepal's communist Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, who won a crucial floor test in Parliament on Sunday with more than a two-thirds majority, vowed to begin a "new chapter" in Nepali politics, nearly a week after he was sworn in to lead a coalition government in the politically unstable Himalayan nation.

Oli secured 188 votes in favour of the Vote of Confidence motion tabled by him while 74 votes were cast against him.

Communist Party of Vietnam's General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng dies at 80

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyễn Phú Trọng,  passed away on Friday at 1.38pm. He was 80 years old.

In an announcement issued by the Expert Council for the Health Protection of Central-level Officials, the Party chief had been under the intensive care of leading medical experts and doctors and was with his family. He passed away due to age-related illness at Central Military Hospital 108 in Hà Nội.

KKE: Ursula von der Leyen's re-election confirms the "dealings" between conservatives, social democrats and far-rightists in the EU

Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected President of the European Commission, following a vote held today, Thursday 18 July 2024, at the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. 

 

Her re-election was supported by the European People's Party (EPP), the Social Democrats (S&D) and Liberals, but also by far-right and green political forces. In total it received 401 positive votes, 284 against and 55 abstentions.

On the evening of July 13, a gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The gunman grazed Trump’s ear, leaving him bloodied, with one attendee dead and two others wounded. These individual acts of adventurism have proven throughout history to be a dead-end which can only harm real efforts to gather the movement for the socialist revolution. In the US, many examples exist of failed or successful assassination attempts.

Former U.S President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on Saturday 13 July 2024 at a Pennsylvania rally, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time. A barrage of gunfire set off panic, and a bloodied Trump, who was shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.

KKE and the Communist Party of Cuba reaffirm strong fraternal relations during Koutsoumbas' visit in Havana

The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reaffirmed their strong, fraternal relations during a meeting in Havana, within the framework of the visit paid by KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas on the island. 

More specifically, as Granma reported,  the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, received on Saturday 13/7 Koutsoumbas and the delegation accompanying him.

Syrian Communist Party denounces the detention of comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil

In a statement, the Central Secretariat of the Syrian Communist Party denounced the arrest of comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil and demands his immediate release:

"On July 10, departments affiliated with the so-called “Self-Administration” in northeast Syria arrested Comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil, the nominated member of the Political Bureau of the Syrian Communist Party and a member of the People’s Assembly (Parliament), due to his participation in the electoral campaign for the People’s Assembly (Parliament). Comrade Abdul Rahman refused to sign a pledge not to participate in this campaign in exchange for his release.

Venezuela: Nicolás Maduro, a cynical candidate

Candidate Nicolás Maduro moves with ease; he goes around the country pointing out what is wrong here and there. He denounces bureaucracy and corruption. Everywhere he goes there are unfinished construction works; he summons ministers and mayors; he shouts and gesticulates. Candidate Nicolás Maduro does not like the management of President Nicolás Maduro, however, he asks for his reelection.

It seems that there were another government that delivers a catastrophic administration and that the candidate Nicolás Maduro disinterestedly offers to solve it because he has nothing to do with that disaster.

In a statement on the NATO Summit to be held from 9 to 11 July in Washington, D.C., the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) notes the following:

“The NATO Summit, which will be held from 9 to11 July 2024, in Washington, D.C., marks a new round of intensification of Euro-Atlantic aggression around the world. In the foreground is the escalation of the imperialist war in Ukraine between the Ukrainian bourgeoisie, which actively supports and is backed by NATO, and capitalist Russia and its own allies, which poses great dangers for the peoples.

Tudeh Party: The manoeuvres of the theocratic regime in Iran and the changes in the guards to save the dictatorship

In a statement concerning the recent Presidential elections in Iran and the victory of Masoud Pezeshkian, the Tudeh Party stresses out:

"The presidential election show, which the ruling regime of Iran was eagerly hoping to turn into a grand endorsement of the theocratic regime, ended with the majority of the nation boycotting it. Even according to the official statistics, in several major cities, including the capital Tehran, voter turnout barely exceeded 30%. According to ISNA, the head of the election office in Tehran province said: "The number of eligible voters for the fourteenth presidential election was 10,199,742, and in this election, on June 25^th, 3,366,264 ballots were used in the capital."

Kommunistische Partei - KP: New Communist Party was founded in Germany

The last Congress of the Communist Organisation (Kommunistische Organisation, KO) was held from June 21 to 23, 2024. At this congress the members decided to found the Communist Party (Kommunistische Partei, KP). 

Therefore, we consider this congress to be our 1st Party Construction Congress (a name we adopted for the first two congresses, because they will establish the basic features of the party as such). As a result, we are giving up our previous name and are changing it to Kommunistische Partei (KP).

Koutsoumbas on French Elections: "The regroupment of the movement in France, Greece and across Europe is the only way that can generate hope to the people"

KKE's General Secretary to visit Cuba on 10-15 July

A delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), headed by General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas, will visit Cuba on 10-15 July, following an invitation by Cuba's Communist Party (PCC), Rizospastis reports. 

The visit will include numerous bilateral meetings between the two fraternal parties, including the Union of Young Communists (UJC), the Workers' Central Union of Cuba (Central de Trabajadores de Cuba - CTC) and other bodies of the Cuban people's movement.

What is Stalinism and what does it actually mean to be a Stalinist today?

Since the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956, everything that relates to Joseph Stalin has been demonized. The so-called “destalinization” process initiated by Khrushchev and his political allies, within the broader opportunistic turn of the CPSU, tried to blame Stalin for all the evils of the world. 

Khrushchev's shameless campaign against Stalin was effectively used by the capitalist world in building the anti-communist arsenal of the Cold War. 

Italy: Initiative for the construction of a new, militant Communist Party presented in Rome

On 30 June 2024, in a fully-packed hall in Rome, dozens of communists demonstrated that there is a political proposal with enormous potential to build a modern, serious, structured Communist Party in Italy that is up to date with the times.

U.S Presidential Debate: Trump Gains, Biden Falters, Monopolies Win

In the aftermath of the Presidential debate, President Joe Biden is the main loser against Republican candidate Donald Trump, sparking discussions about potentially changing the Democratic candidate for the upcoming November presidential elections. 

 

The two candidates clashed on issues like abortion, immigration, the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, and economic management while also engaging in personal attacks. Although polls indicate a close race, Trump currently leads in several swing states that often determine the election outcome.

 

Communist Party of Britain (CPB): "The working people should have no illusions about an incoming Labour government under Starmer"

“Whoever takes office after 4 July, the ruling capitalist class will remain in power in Britain”, Johnnie Hunter, the Communist Party’s Director of Communications, told the Party’s political committee on 25 June 2024.

Dutch communists on the appointment of Mark Rutte as NATO's new chief

KKE on French elections: Only the workers-popular movement can stop the rise of the far-right

Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally (RN) party led the first round of France’s parliamentary elections on Sunday, taking it closer to the gates of power than ever before.

After an unusually high turnout, the RN bloc clinched 33.15% of the vote, while the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) coalition came second with 27.99% and President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble alliance slumped to a dismal third with 20.76%, according to final results published by the Interior Ministry on Monday.
