Under the slogan “We are the spark that will turn darkness into light”, the 13th Congress of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), the youth wing of the KKE, began its works on Friday 10 February in Athens.
The opening of the Congress took place at the KKE headquarters in Perissos, with the participation of 28 Communist Youths and Anti-imperialist groups from all over the world. Among the attendees were representatives from the Embassies of Cuba, Vietnam and the Palestinian Authority, MPs and MEPs of the KKE, the President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), representatives of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), trade unionists, professors, journalists, people of arts, athletes, etc.

The opening speech was delivered by the Secretary of the Central Council of KNE Nikos Abatielos. Among other things, Abatielos announced that in the following days a group of KNE members will head to Turkey in order to provide solidarity assistance and material aid to the comrades of the Communist Party of Turkey and the Communist Youth. Additionally, the Secretary demanded the lift of the unacceptable US-NATO-EU blockade and sanctions on Syria.
The Congress continues with interventions by representatives of foreign Communist Youths.

Today, Saturday, the General Secretary of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, will address the participants.
The 13th Congress of KNE will conclude its works on Sunday 12 February.
Founded in 1968, in the midst of the anti-dictatorial struggle, KNE is the most pioneering and dynamic political youth in Greece. Since 1975, KNE organizes every September the KNE-Odigitis Festival which is widely regarded as one of the most significant annual cultural events in the country.
