Concerning the official visit of the US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in Athens within the framework of his European trip to Germany, Turkey and Greece, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) issued the following statement (here in Greek):
"The visit of the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Greece marks the even more active and in all ways active participation of our country in the dangerous US-NATO plans in the broader region, with the current imperialist war between NATO and Russia in Ukraine being at the epicenter. Actually, it has been made absolutely clear that Greece is willing to continue its military support with weapons and other ways towards the reactionary Zelensky government.
This is the content of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue and the relative agreements that have transformed Greece, from the north to the south, into a vast NATO base. It is not a coincidence that the US officials who are visiting Greece these days are “inspecting”bases and facilities that play an active role in these plans.
Blinken's meetings both with the Government and with SYRIZA (which launched the Strategic Dialogue with the US), confirm that any next Government will have these commitments to NATO and the US as a “cornerstone” of its policy, thus leading the people into very dangerous adventures. That is why the stance of the parties towards these dangerous agreements and the necessity to oppose them, which must be expressed by the strengthening of the KKE, consists a voting criterion in the next elections.
From this involvement in the imperialist plans, the winners will be the large business groups in both countries who will make “golden deals”, especially in the energy sector which is already paid dearly by the people due to the supply of the very expensive US gas.
At the same time, the ground for NATO settlements within the Greek-Turkish relations is being paved, bringing back the well-known “earthquakes diplomacy”, which has absolutely nothing to do with the genuine and real solidarity and friendship between the two peoples, against the wolf-pack “friendships” of the bourgeois classes and governments”.
