In a statement, the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the blockade imposed on the Armenian population at Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan. More specifically, the statement (here in Greek) reads:
"The people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) are once again experiencing great difficulties, following the complete blockade (ground and air) imposed by Azerbaijan, with the tolerance of the Russian "peacekeeping" forces. The Armenians of the region, deprived of food, medicine and fuel supplies in the particularly difficult winter conditions, are facing serious problems of survival.
These dramatic developments are linked to the recent autumn war in the Caucasus, as the "aftermath" of the major imperialist war in Ukraine facilitated the military crushing of the Armenians and the victory of the Azeris, who had the full political-military support of Turkey, which in its "eastern bargaining" with the Russian leadership achieved tolerance for these developments.
Behind all these developments, which are now being paid for by the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), lies the struggle of the bourgeoisie for raw materials, for the routes for transporting goods, for geopolitical supports, for market shares, in two words, the capitalist mode of production.
The developments continue to draw, in the same way "blood attracks sharks", other imperialist powers, such as the USA and the EU, which are involved in them anyway, but now they are given the opportunity to deepen their involvement in the strategically important Caucasus region.
The KKE condemns the blockade of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh, the pursuit of their impoverishment and physical extermination.
We stand against the interests of the bourgeois classes and the plans of the imperialist powers, which massacre the peoples in wars or exterminate them by "peaceful" means of poverty and misery.
We demand an end to the blockade of the region and we call on the working class, the peoples of the region, who are experiencing a lasting tragedy as a result of the counter-revolutionary overthrow of the socialist system, to organize their independent struggle against those class interests that divide them on the basis of language, religion, ethnic origin and to build a common struggle against the monopolies and capitalism, which, if not overthrown, will continue to bloody them and exterminate them".
