Colin Powell, the retired four-star general who served as the 65th U.S. Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005, died today after complications from Covid-19.
Powell connected his name with the two most significant US-led imperialist wars of the first decade of the 21st century: In 2001 in Afghanistan and in 2003 in Iraq. On February 2003, he consciously deceived the international community during his speech at the United Nations, by presenting fabricated "evidence" in order to support the imperialist invasion in Iraq.
Like other U.S. Secretaries of State, he is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths, destruction and misery in the Middle East
We "bid farewell" to Colin Powell with a banner unfolded by members of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) on the Acropolis rock, on the day of his - scheduled but ultimately postponed - visit in Athens on August 28, 2004, a day before the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.
The banner, which received international attention, reads: "Don't Forget that civilians are being slaughtered in Najaf and a wall is being built in Palestine. Powell Killer Go Home".
