The military regime, which ousted elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, is escalating violence against protesters.
Communist Parties across the world condemn the violent practices of the dictatorial regime and express their solidarity towards the protesting people of Myanmar.
Communist Party of India (Marxist)
Provide refugee status to the people of Myanmar.
In a statement issued on March 13, 2021, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) points out:
"The Polit Bureau expresses its deep concern at the Central Government’s instruction to the North-Eastern state governments to check the influx of people coming in from Myanmar. The Home Ministry in a letter has asked the states to identify “illegal migrants”, hold them and start deportation proceedings.
This is an inhuman and anti-democratic stand towards people fleeing the violence perpetrated by the military rulers who have seized power ousting the elected government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Indian people have great sympathy and support for the neighbouring people of Myanmar who are valiantly protesting against the military takeover.
The Indian government should reflect this sympathy and not treat the people who have crossed over fearing for their lives as “illegal migrants”. They should be given refugee status and provided humanitarian assiatance."
Philippines Communist Party (PKP-1930)
In a statement published on March 28, 2021, the Secretariat of the CC of the Philippines Communist Party (PKP-1930), condemns Myanmar military junta's response to people's protests:
"The Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas strongly condemns the Myanmar military junta's bloody response to the people's peaceful protests against the military coup. Since the February 1, 2021 coup d'etat which overthrew the government elected last November 2020 (which government was led by the party of the western-backed Aung San Suu Kyi), many civilian government officials and political leaders have been detained, with the military declaring a one-year state of emergency under its rule.
Since the coup, the people have sustained a campaign of peaceful street protests in the capital city of Naypyitaw, in the other main cities of Yangon and Mandalay, and in many other parts of the country. However, peaceful protests of unarmed civilians have been met with brutal repression, with gunfire against demonstrators also hitting nearby communities leading to the death of some young children.
Over 420 unarmed protesters and bystanders have already been killed since February, with over 100 being shot dead across the country by security forces on March 27 (Myanmar Armed Forces Day). Addressing a military parade at the capital on that day, Senior General and Junta head Min Aung Hlaing again promised to hold elections without giving any time frame, and claimed that the military is “protecting the people” and “striving for democracy”. Ominously, state television warned on that day that protesters risked being shot “in the head and back”.
The PKP-1930 supports the struggle of the people of Myanmar against the military coup, and for their democratic rights and freedoms. In solidarity with the suffering people of Myanmar, the PKP-1930 demands the immediate and full withdrawal of the state of emergency, and the release of all political prisoners. Myanmar should no longer be a field of great-power contention between western (US-NATO) and eastern (China-Russia) capitalist powers, and its people deserve a peaceful life without military rule and without foreign interference."
