India: Communist Party member stabbed to death by right-wing criminals in Kerala

A 52-year-old activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was stabbed to death in Kollam district, in the Indian state of Kerala, on Monday 7 December. According to local CPI(M) leaders, the murderers belong to the nationalist, right-wing RSS paramilitary organization.

This is the fourth CPI(M) worker murdered in the state in the last four months.

CPI(M) state secretary in-charge A Vijayaraghavan said the killing was an attempt to disrupt peace ahead of polling for the first phase of today's local body elections.

“RSS criminals have murdered a CPI(M) activist Manilal at around 8.30 pm on Sunday night in front of the LDF election committee office. This murder is a concocted plan by the RSS to disrupt the peace in the locality hours before the local polls,” Vijayaraghavan posted on Facebook.

In a statement about Manilal's brutal murder, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) points out:

Comrade Manilal, an active member of CPI(M) in Monroe Island situated in Kollam district of Kerala, was brutally murdered by RSS criminals around 8:30 pm yesterday in front of the Left Democratic Front's election committee office. He was rushed to the hospital, but Comrade succumbed to the injuries.

The murder undeniably is a product of organised attempt by the RSS to disrupt law and order in the region, with just 24 hours remaining before the local body elections. RSS is deliberately trying to create an atmosphere of terror in a region with no history of violence.

We condemn the brutal murder of Comrade Manilal. We also urge all democratic forces to protest against this brutal murder.
