Statement of the KKE on Armenia-Azerbaijan armed conflict

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) refers to the escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The statement reads:
"Two peoples who, for 70 years, within the frame of the Soviet Union, lived together and progressed peacefully, laying the foundations of a new society without the exploitation of man by man, are once again on the brink of a generalized war.
The “wound” that opened with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the relations between the two peoples were “malformed” even more in recent decades, as shown by the conflicts in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, due to the interests of the bourgeois classes of the two countries, with the meddling of other powers, such as Turkey which is moving militarily by the side of Azerbaijan, the U.S., the EU and Russia, which are promoting their own interests.
The information that arrive, as well as the evaluations that can be made, show that the military operations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are connected with the “chain” of intra-imperialist confrontations in Syria, Libya, the Caucasus region, Central Asia, the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, where powerful monopolies and imperialist forces, with different plans, are clashing.

There is an attempt to direct the consequences of the capitalist crisis, the increase of social impasses in capitalist societies, the emergence of social protests towards the sterile and dangerous ground of nationalism and people's massacre, so that the power of the bourgeois classes will not be shaken.

The people of Armenia and Azerbaijan, who pay with their own blood the promotion of those or other – but always foreign – capitalist interests, must learn from their history and rise a front both to the imperialist interventions and the interests of the bourgeois classes. To build their own “wall” against imperialist wars, to engrave a strategy of clash with the capitalist system which generates crises, wars and refugees.
