In Athens, the mobilization of KNE took place outside the U.S. embassy where the young communists shouted slogans against the barbarity and repression of the capitalist system. Some of the slogans were “War, poverty, racism, this is capitalism” and “Capitalists’ democracy means repression and violence for the people”.
Addressing the protest, Alexandros Bougas, member of the Central Council of KNE, pointed out:
“The working people, the youth, the people of the U.S. have every right to demonstrate against the barbarity and repression of the U.S. government and state […] The Trump government, such as the one of his predecessor Obama and all the U.S. governments to date, either Republican or Democratic ones, bear huge responsibilities because racist crimes, police violence and repression never stopped”.
The rally was attended by the Communist Party’s member of the European Parliament Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos.

A similar protest was held in Greece’s second largest city, Thessaloniki, where hundreds of young men and women, holding banners, flags and black balloons, marched in the city center towards the U.S. consulate condemning the murder of George Floyd.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Communist Youth of Greece points out among other things:
“This new murder, with the image of police officer’s knee on the neck of the victim who died of suffocation, has caused righteous indignation and disgust in millions of workers and young people in the USA and all over the world. It shows the barbarity with which the bourgeois state in the “metropolis of capitalism”, in the “highly publicized democracy of the USA”, treats the workers, the jobless and the poor ones – such as Floyd – who seek for a day’s wage."
