Dimitris Koutsoumbas on U.S. protests: "The myth of the American Dream is collapsing"

In an interview with CNN Greece, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas commented, among other things, about the mass protests in the U.S. following the murder of George Floyd:
“The murder of African American Floyd by a white police officer was the trigger for the outburst of popular outrage that had been simmering. Alongside state violence, this outbreak is affected by other factors, such as the 100,000 deaths due to Coronavirus – with most victims belonging to the poor popular strata who had no access to health facilities – as well as the burgeoning of unemployment and poverty.
While there are 40 million unemployed people in the U.S., 600 American businessmen have increased their fortune by $434 billion! Of course, this “cocktail” of contradictions was pre-existed, created by the policies of both the governments of the Republicans and those of the Democrats. The myth of the American dream is collapsing.
Poverty, social exclusion, racism, the intensity of state violence against the American people is the other side of the U.S. imperialist crimes and wars against the people. Therefore, the major conclusion is the one that has become a slogan: “Capitalism means I can’t breathe”.
The solidarity towards the American people who are on the streets even for their basic civil liberties, the condemnation of racist and state violence by the working people, the youth of our country, is in stark contrast to the stance of the ND government, some members of which went so far as to applaud Trump’s orgy of repression. It is also in stark contrast with the stance of SYRIZA, which has been silenced about the Trump administration, even more about the system that breeds racism and crime. This is normal, as both continue presenting their credentials to the U.S. government as “preferred” and “predictable” partners.”

Video by the KKE on George Floyd’s murder and U.S. protests

On Friday, the KKE issued a short but inspiring video about the murder of George Floyd and the mass demonstrations in the United States. The video is accompanied by Bruce Springsteen’s song “The Ghost of Tom Joad” (featuring Tom Morello of “Rage Against the Machine” band) which refers to John Steinbeck’s 1939 classic novel “The Grapes of Wrath”.
