Statement of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) on the Sentence of the Supreme Court against the Leaders of the Catalan independence movement (Procés).

1.- This sentence means a new step – and a warning to seafarers – in the dynamics of repressive approaching of the conflicts with an economic, social or territorial conflicts occurred in Spain.
2.- Our Party repeatedly warned the working class and the people that the independentist process led to a dead end. The sections of the Catalan middle and petty bourgeoisie that headed the procés underestimated the ability of the Spanish State to answer.
3.- The developments in Catalonia cannot be analyzed apart from the current moment that world capitalism is going through, characterized by a serious intensification of the contradictions between the main capitalist powers where the States use all the police, judiciary, media, economic or military tools they can, trampling on the democratic formalities and the International Rights arisen after World War II, to impose their interests. Imperialism tends to reaction in all the spheres.
4.- In this struggle between capitalists, the bourgeoisie promotes the advancement of the different nationalisms to trap the working class and the people, using them as cannon fodder in defense of their interests. All of it, under conditions where an obvious trend of centralization of the capitalist States is manifested, as they cannot allow themselves not even the lesser inner weakness in the hard row waged at an international level.
5.- We warned then that the State would use the procés in the logic of that centralization, placing as a political goal the total defeat of the Catalan nationalism while the Spanish reaction and nationalism are strengthened.
6.- The State has used the most modern techniques of mass psychological manipulation in the case of Catalonia. The leakages to mass media and the use of a calculated state repression, which the last detentions of CDR members belong to, have been happening. The way the sentence of the Supreme Court has been known, leaking time after time the change of the date when it was going to be published or unveiling its content chapter by chapter, belong to this process.
7.- In a scene where nobody doubts on the outbreak of a new capitalist crisis, the sentence of the procés becomes a new tool in the hands of the bourgeoisie, sharpening the mechanisms of state repression and ideologically preparing to normally assume the implementation of the coercive strings the bourgeoisie counts with: the suspension of the autonomy in accordance with article 155 of the Constitution, the massive use of police force or the possibility to sentence because of crimes like sedition or rebellion.
8.- Today Spanish nationalism, repression, the violation of the essential rights or the campaign of psychological manipulation from mass media is focused on the Catalan independentism, but in the background of the economic difficulties that are looming nobody should doubt this is the starting point against all social opposition to the capitalist system.
9.- The division of power is revealed as a farce. There is one single power, the capitalist power, which the bourgeoisie does not share. Thus the alignment of the main capitalist parties on the Catalan issue is explained, as the PSOE, PP, Ciudadanos and Vox share all the essence of it and even PODEMOS made the choice to bow to the State policies in Catalonia for the sake of entering the Council of Ministers.
10.- The sentence of the Supreme Court is a new reactionary step against the interests of the workers’ and people’s movement. The PCTE calls our people to reject every nationalism and to manifest a total rejection to the increase of state repression by demanding de freedom of all the political prisoners.
11.- The right to self-determination, as a means to unite the peoples in respect and equality, turns out to be impossible to conquer in capitalist Spain. The working class must not follow any false banner, under the bait of one or another nationalism. It is required to choose an independent path, the path of unity of all workers, regardless of any feeling of national belonging, to defeat capitalism and build a common fatherland of work over the ruins of the capitalist society, based on the principle of voluntary union of our peoples. One country for the working class.

Ante dicha sentencia, que el Buró Político del PCTE condena con rotundidad, se hace pública la presente declaración:
1.- Esta sentencia supone un nuevo escalón – y un aviso a navegantes – en la dinámica de abordaje represivo de los conflictos de carácter económico, social o territorial que se producen en España.
2.- Nuestro Partido advirtió reiteradamente a la clase obrera y al pueblo de que el proceso independentista conducía a un callejón sin salida. Los sectores de la burguesía media y de la pequeña burguesía catalana que encabezaron el procés minusvaloraron la capacidad de respuesta del Estado español.
3.- Los sucesos en Cataluña no pueden analizarse al margen del momento actual que atraviesa el capitalismo mundial, caracterizado por una grave intensificación de las contradicciones entre las principales potencias capitalistas en la que los Estados utilizan todas las herramientas policiales, judiciales, mediáticas, económicas o militares a su alcance, pisoteando las formalidades democráticas y el Derechos Internacional surgido tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial para imponer sus intereses. El imperialismo tiende a la reacción en todos los terrenos.
4.- En esa pugna entre capitalistas, la burguesía fomenta el avance de los distintos nacionalismos para atrapar a la clase obrera y al pueblo, utilizándolos como carne de cañón en defensa de sus intereses. Todo ello, en condiciones en que se manifiesta una clara tendencia a la centralización de los Estado capitalistas, que no pueden permitirse la menor debilidad interna en la dura disputa que se libra a escala internacional.
5.- En su día advertimos de que el Estado emplearía el procés en la lógica de esa centralización, situando como objetivo político la derrota total del nacionalismo catalán al mismo tiempo que se fortalecen la reacción y el nacionalismo español.
6.- El Estado ha empleado las más modernas técnicas de manipulación psicológica de masas en el caso de Cataluña. Se han sucedido las filtraciones a los medios de comunicación y el uso de una calculada represión estatal, de la que forman parte las últimas detenciones de miembros de los CDR. La forma en que se ha conocido la sentencia del Tribunal Supremo, sucediéndose las filtraciones de la fecha en que se haría pública o desvelando por capítulos su contenido forman parte de ese proceso.
7.- En un escenario en el que nadie duda del estallido de una nueva crisis capitalista, la sentencia del procés se convierte en un nuevo instrumento en manos de la burguesía, afinando los mecanismos de la represión estatal y preparando ideológicamente para que asuma con normalidad la aplicación de todos los resortes coactivos con que cuenta la burguesía: la suspensión de la autonomía en aplicación del artículo 155 de la Constitución, el empleo masivo de la fuerza policial o la posibilidad de condena por delitos como la sedición o la rebelión.
8.- Hoy el nacionalismo español, la represión, la vulneración de derechos fundamentales o la campaña de manipulación psicológica desde los medios de comunicación está enfocada hacia el independentismo catalán, pero en el contexto de las dificultades económicas que se acercan, nadie debe dudar de que es el punto de partida contra toda oposición social al sistema capitalista.
9.- La división de poderes se desvela como una farsa. Existe un solo poder, el poder capitalista, que la burguesía no comparte. Así se explica el alineamiento de los principales partidos capitalistas en la cuestión catalana, en el que PSOE, PP, Ciudadanos y Vox comparten los esencial e incluso PODEMOS tomó la decisión de plegarse a las políticas del Estado en Cataluña con tal de entrar en el Consejo de Ministros.
10.- La sentencia del Tribunal Supremo es un nuevo paso reaccionario contrario a los intereses del movimiento obrero y popular. El PCTE llama a nuestro pueblo a rechazar todo nacionalismo y a manifestar un rechazo frontal al incremento de la represión estatal, exigiendo la libertad de todos los presos políticos.
11.- El derecho a la autodeterminación, como vía para unir a los pueblos en el respeto y la igualdad se hace imposible de conquistar en la España capitalista. La clase obrera no debe seguir ninguna falsa bandera, bajo el señuelo de uno u otro nacionalismo. Es preciso elegir un camino independiente, el camino de la unidad de todos los trabajadores y trabajadoras, con independencia de todo sentimiento de pertenencia nacional, para derrotar al capitalismo y construir una patria común del trabajo sobre las ruinas de la sociedad capitalista, basada en el principio de la unión voluntaria de nuestros pueblos. Un país para la clase obrera.
