In an event organized at the famous stairway of the University of Havana on Saturday 24 November, thousands of Cubans of every age, mainly young students, paid tribute to Comandante en Jeffe Fidel Castro Ruz, on the second anniversary of his physical dissapearance.
Alongside with the President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez -as well as other leaders of the Party, the State, the Government, the Union of Young Communists, the formative organisms, the student organizations and the youth movements- hundreds of thousands of university students gathered in order to ratify the path laid out by the undisputed leader of the Cuban Revolution.
"Today we are here not to remember his absence, nor to regret his departure to immortality, we are here because we feel his presence and because in these two years his stature has grown, his ideas have multiplied and his legacy has become more necessary", said the second secretary of the National Committee of the UJC Ronal Hidalgo Rivera, in his speech.
Allegorical images of his legendary figure, songs, audiovisual projection, poetry and repentismo joined the patriotic slogans repeated there by those present over and over again, in a day that remembered Fidel alive as they feel today millions of compatriots.
From his side, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel extolled the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the eve of the second anniversary of his death.
"Fidel thought and organized the Revolution, he headed it, fought and won; he rescued the country’s dignity and forged an unequal emancipatory work. He resolutely confronted imperialism, grew with his people and for many reasons he will be forever", the Cuban president wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday.
Diaz-Canel also recalled that the Cuban revolutionary leader, who passed away on November 25, 2016, "placed Cuba in a prestigious place in the world due to his contribution to the revolutionary theory and practice and to social and human development".
He demonstrated to us that a better world is possible and, therefore, with conviction, we fight, Diaz-Canel stressed.
