Pro-peace, anti-imperialist movements in Greece have called for mass rallies against NATO in Athens and Thessaloniki on July 7th. The Greek Committee for Peace and International Detente (EEDYE) and numerous labor unions, student and women associations have openly called for participation on Thursday 7th July's demonstration and march in the US Embassy of Athens.
A similar protest will take place on the same day in Thessaloniki, outside the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps (NRDC) headquarters.
In it's statement, EEDYE points out the aims of the demonstrations:
- To decisively condemn NATO and the Summit in Warsaw in which new murderous decisions will be taken.
- To denounce the policy of the coalition government of SYRIZA-ANEL which implicates Greece and the Greek people in dangerous adverntures.
- To demand a "NO" in the imperialist wars - To close down the US-NATO military bases in Greece. No participation of Greece in the imperialist plans. NATO out of the Aegean Sea.
- To strengthen the solidarity towards refugees.
The NATO Summit will take place between 8-9 July in Warsaw, Poland.
